3 Signs There Might Be Rodents in Your Home

In our experience, pest infestations are not always obvious, so we work to educate people about the early signs of pest problems. In this article, we’d like to focus on rodents and go over a few ways you can tell if your home has been invaded by mice, rats, or other unwanted pests.

  • Unusual Pet Behavior – One way to tell if rodents have entered your home is to watch the behavior of your pets. Both cats and dogs hunt rodents, so they can usually detect their presence earlier than their humans can. If your pet starts staring at a particular spot with unusual interest or starts scratching or pawing at a spot on the wall, they might be trying to get a mouse or rat they can smell in that area.
  • Rodent Droppings – All animals need to eliminate waste from their bodies, so if there are rodents in your home, there will be rodent droppings around. Rodent droppings are small dark lumps shaped like fat grains of rice. You will most likely see them around food packages, along walls, and in hidden areas such as under the sink.
  • Teeth Marks – Rodents’ teeth never stop growing, so they must constantly chew and gnaw on various materials to keep their teeth manageable. If there are rodents in your home, you will begin to see teeth marks on things like food packages, furniture, cabinets, and molding.
